Morning Jewish interest walking tour features the old Jewish town, including the former Ghetto area; the Jewish Town Hall; the old Jewish cemetery; and the Jewish State Museum, a vast network of buildings and synagogues and the Alt-Neu Schul, built in 1270. Remainder of the day at leisure to enjoy this charming city on your own. (B)
Day at leisure. Or participate in the optional pilgrimage to Terezin, the former Nazi concentration camp. The Small Fortress, used from the beginning as a prison, became the largest concentration camp in Bohemia during WWII. It was a place of big contrast between two absolutely different worlds: prisoners, surviving in a terrible situation in crowded cells; against Gestapo guards, living in luxury, just behind a wall. The big Fortress, the original garrison town, was converted into a Jewish Ghetto through which more than 150,000 Jews passed; 35,000 of them died from inhuman living conditions and racial persecution. Part of your tour includes a visit to the Jewish Museum with a permanent exhibition on the history of the Ghetto. Further you will visit the National Cemetery of the victims of fascism and the crematorium with the Jewish Cemetery. After your visit, return to Prague for the remainder of the day at leisure until your special evening dinner. (B,D)
