With travel temporarily on pause, we are all searching for ways to fill that void. While we still can’t be on a river cruise to explore the world in person, we can do the next best thing-virtually. After a full day of sightseeing, many passengers head to the lounge for a relaxing Happy Hour before dinner. So while we are all at home, there’s no reason you can’t indulge your thirst for river cruising by hosting a virtual "Sip 'n' Sail Hour." All you need to do is invite your family, neighbors, and friends to a Zoom, Facebook Live, or other sharing platform to a designated time. Here are some featured cocktail recipes from river cruise lines. Just assemble the ingredients and imagine you are onboard sipping one of these signature cocktails with fellow passengers. AmaWaterways Peach Mojitos INGREDIENTS · Crushed Ice · Fresh Mint leaves · ½ oz Rum · 1 ½ oz Peach Liquor · Lime (cut into quarters) · Sugar to taste (optional) 1. In a tall, sturdy drink glass, combine lime, sugar, and mint leaves. 2. Muddle together the mint and lime to release the mint oils and lime juice. Be sure your muddle is taller than your glass! 3. Once muddled, add crushed ice 4. Top with rum and peach liqueur 5. Stir and sip to taste. Crystal River Cruises’ Gin and Jam Cocktail Ingredients: 2 oz. Gordon’s gin 2 oz. fresh lemon 1 tsp. raspberry jam To serve: Shake all ingredients together with ice, then strain into rocks glass with fresh ice. For garnish, take spoon of jam, lay it across the glass to be stirred into the drink for extra sweetness. Viking River Cruises Sangria The term sangria can be documented back to a punch enjoyed in London in 1736. The original ingredients included Madeira (a fortified Portuguese wine) sugar, lime juice, water and nutmeg. Over the centuries, the recipe has been modified, but it is still the classic preparation of wine and citrus fruit that makes sangria a favorite today. Ingredients · 1 lg orange, peeled, segmented and cut in half · 1 C (151 g) strawberries, hulled and quartered · 1 C (155 g) seedless green grapes, cut in half · 1 (750 ml) bottle rosé wine · ⅓ C (89 ml) Cointreau or other orange-flavored liqueur · Juice of 1 lemon Directions Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher and refrigerate for three hours. Serve in wine glasses or large tumblers over ice. . · Prep time: 8 minutes. · Chilling time: 3 hours. · Makes 6 servings. Uniworld's Chocolate Martini Besides making some of the best chocolate in the world, the Swiss eat more of it per capita than anywhere else. This particularly sinful way to consume combines Godiva chocolate liqueur with crème de cacao, vodka and cream and a sprinkle of chocolate dust. Find this cocktail onboard the S.S. Combine chocolate liqueur, crème de cacao, vodka, and cream over ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Dust with chocolate powder.
